#mobile #sitedesign Tip 3 of 4

3. Choose Critical Components

Start by focusing on what the critical components are because a mobile site is very limited space-wise. That’s a really small space of real estate you have to work with to serve, support, and sell.  Think about what is most important for people to do when they visit your site. Have you asked them what they’d like to do? Have you seen what they do via google analytics? What do you want them to know? Where do you want them go? What do you want them to do?

Think from their perspective!
Do they need to find your address or be able to call you easily? See what services you provide? A mobile-specific site is not required d to have all the pages your regular site has. Critical components usually include your logo, messaging that clarifies what the you do, links to important site pages, a click-to-call phone number, and a link to view the full website (for people who want more than just the mobile-specific small site).

Happy hunting!

#Mobile Site Design - Best Practices 2 of 4

2. Mobile Site Users Scan not Read

You only have a second to make an impression and prompt an action with a #mobilesite. To best architect your mobile presence, remember that mobile web users are more likely to scan rather than read, and are typically looking for specific information.  The ideas that you came up with in step one will need to be offered in a way that is easy to navigate and access on mobile phones.  Focus more on bullets and actions. We will typically pare our Mobile functionality to use only the top 3-4 use case scenarios.

#1 top offer a visible click-to-call phone number

#2 address / directons !!!

#3 a mobile-specific site does not need have to have all pages, just the critical ones.

#Mobile Site design - Best Practices 1 of 4

All businesses can benefit by having a #mobileweb presence, from seo to attracting browsers who are in motion. After developing many of these sites, we’ve come to find that one mobile site does not fit all.  If you are thinking about developing a mobile-specific site, there are four basic questions that need to be asked and answered..

1. What actions do you want users to be able to take, and which would you like to drive them to take.

Do you want them to visit a specific page or pages of your mobile specific site? Place a call? ? Buy? Sign up? Visitors need to be directed  and design is what facilitates the action process. Design tactics can make a big user experience difference.Navigational paths are important and should be optimized for the proper user experience.
